Kanjo โ€” Terms of Service

Last updated: July 13, 2026 ยท Version 2026-07-13

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of Kanjo โ€” a cash-flow and cost-of-goods-sold (COGS) application for owners of restaurants, bakeries, bars, and similar food-and-service businesses โ€” including the mobile application, the getkanjo.com websites, and related tools (together, the "Service"). The Service is published by Cognitive Fab LLC ("Kanjo," "we," "us," or "our"). By creating an account, subscribing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

In short: Kanjo is a decision-support tool that helps you see where your money goes. It is not accounting, bookkeeping, tax, or payroll software, and the numbers it produces must never be used for tax filings, financial statements, or any other filing. Its figures are best-effort estimates built from bank feeds, scanned documents, and heuristics โ€” expect small deviations, and review anything that matters.

1. What the Service is โ€” and is not

Kanjo aggregates information from several sources โ€” bank transactions retrieved through Plaid, receipts and invoices you scan, sales channel deposits, and categorization rules and filters โ€” to give you a practical, directional picture of your revenue, costs, and cash position.

The Service is for informational and operational decision-support purposes only. It is not, and does not replace, professional accounting, bookkeeping, tax preparation, payroll administration, or financial, legal, or investment advice. In particular, you agree that you will not use amounts, totals, categorizations, or reports produced by Kanjo:

The amounts shown depend on too many variables โ€” the data sources you connect, the documents you scan, the filters and categorization rules in effect, and optical character recognition (OCR) โ€” to achieve the level of accuracy those uses require. They also depend on completeness: if you scan all of your receipts and invoices, the picture is fuller; if you scan only a few, totals and trends will reflect only what you provided. Always work from source documents and a qualified professional for anything you file.

2. OCR and data extraction โ€” best effort

Receipt and invoice scanning is provided on a best-effort basis. Real-world documents are complex โ€” discounts, credits, quantity and packaging formats (cases, packs, weights), multi-page invoices, cumulative running totals, handwriting, and print quality all affect extraction. In our experience, roughly 5% of extracted data points may need correction for these reasons.

3. Assumptions and heuristics

Several features rely on stated assumptions and pattern-matching heuristics. They are useful defaults, not guarantees. For example:

4. Your responsibilities

5. Eligibility and accounts

The Service is intended for business use by persons 18 years or older. You are responsible for all activity under your account. If you share access with team members, you are responsible for their use of your business's data within the Service.

6. Subscriptions, trials, and billing

7. Third-party services

The Service depends on third parties: Plaid (bank connections), Finix (payment processing โ€” your card details are tokenized and never touch our servers), cloud infrastructure providers, and OCR/AI providers used to extract data from documents you scan. Their availability and accuracy are outside our control, and your use of bank connections is also subject to Plaid's terms. Outages or changes at these providers can affect the Service.

8. Your data and privacy

Your business data belongs to you. Kanjo is local-first: your financial data lives encrypted on your device, with an encrypted recovery copy in the cloud. How we collect, use, and protect information is described in our Privacy Policy, which is part of these Terms. You can export or delete your data as described there.

9. Acceptable use

You agree not to: misuse, probe, or disrupt the Service; attempt to access other users' data; reverse-engineer or resell the Service; upload unlawful content or documents you have no right to process; or use automated means to scrape or overload the Service.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, and content (but excluding your data), is owned by Cognitive Fab LLC and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for your business while your account is in good standing.

11. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WITHOUT LIMITING THE FOREGOING, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT FIGURES, EXTRACTIONS, CATEGORIZATIONS, OR FORECASTS PRODUCED BY THE SERVICE ARE ACCURATE, COMPLETE, OR SUITABLE FOR ANY ACCOUNTING, TAX, OR FILING PURPOSE, OR THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.

12. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, COGNITIVE FAB LLC WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, LOST DATA, TAX PENALTIES, INTEREST, OR FINES ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON FIGURES PRODUCED BY THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE (12) MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW CERTAIN LIMITATIONS, SO SOME OF THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU.

13. Indemnification

You will indemnify and hold harmless Cognitive Fab LLC from claims arising out of your use of the Service in violation of these Terms, your use of Kanjo figures in filings or statements contrary to Section 1, or your violation of applicable law or third-party rights.

14. Termination

You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for breach of these Terms, non-payment, or where required for legal or security reasons. Sections that by their nature should survive (including Sections 1, 11, 12, 13, and 15) survive termination.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in King County, Washington, and you consent to their jurisdiction. To the extent permitted by law, each party waives any right to a jury trial and agrees claims may be brought only individually, not as a class action.

16. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The "last updated" date and version above reflect the most recent revision, and material changes will be communicated within the application or by email before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
